Taylors Doors manufactures Maxi Double Leaf Hinged Fire Resistant doors utilizing a vermiculite core (TVC40) which is stable and contains no asbestos or mineral fibers.

Maxi Fire Resistant doors are edged with an internal (nominal) 10mm solid timber edge rail to all four (4) sides with a selection of door facings dependent on the finish required and/or fire rating required.

Our standard range of door facings include;

  • Paint Grade Ply (sheet thickness 3.6mm)
  • Duracote Tempered Hardboard (sheet thickness 3.2mm)
  • MDF (sheet thickness 4mm)

The core used in the manufacture of our Maxi Fire Resistant doors is 38.5mm thick.

Dependent on the facing required the finish thickness of the Maxi Fire Resistant door will vary.

The following table outlines the approximate finished door thickness for a Maxi Fire Resistant door based on the standard facing options.

Although there are various facing options we would recommend Ply facings for double doors as the finished thickness of a Ply faced door leaf is the correct size for the required T-Bar meeting stiles which must be installed on the meeting edges of the door leaves. Duracote and MDF facings can be used but the T-Bar meeting stile will either be loose (if a Duracote facing is used) or tight (if an MDF facing is used).

Door Type Facing Approximate Thickness (mm)
Maxi Duracote 44.9
Paint Grade Ply 45.7
MDF (4mm) 46.5

The following table details the maximum door size based on standard wall types. If the wall type you are building into or fixing to is not listed, contact our office to confirm that an available test certificate is available for installing a TVC core fire resistant door into the specific wall type as required under AS1905.1.

The assumption is that each door leaf is of equal width. If the leaf widths are not equal the maximum width of any leaf cannot exceed the maximum allowable width of a maxi single leaf door. For example, looking at a Maxi Double Leaf Hinged doorset certified to AS1905.1-2005, if the overall width of both leaves was 1800mm the widest single leaf of the two leaves would be 1200mm with 600mm for the second leaf, you could not have a 1500mm leaf and a 300mm leaf.
